Therapeutic & Adaptive Riding at Freedom Woods
At Freedom Woods, our Therapeutic & Adaptive Riding program is a place where healing, growth, and joy come together. Whether new to riding or returning after time away, participants in our therapy sessions grow in confidence, strength, and connection — both with our gentle equine partners and with themselves.
What we offer
Tailored Riding Sessions - Guided by experienced instructors who adapt lessons to each rider’s needs, helping with balance, coordination, posture, and motor skills in a supportive setting.
Groundwork & Relationship Building - Before ever mounting, riders learn to groom, lead, and connect with the horse. These moments are just as powerful for trust, emotional regulation, and self-confidence.
Emotional & Social Benefits - Horses naturally mirror our emotions. Through riding, groom work, and simply being around our herd, riders often experience reduced anxiety, improved social interactions, and a renewed sense of peace.
Welcoming for All Abilities - Our program serves those with physical, cognitive, or emotional challenges, and we strive to make every participant feel seen, supported, and included.

Why Horses Help
Horses offer non-judgmental companionship, responding to unspoken cues and helping people explore feelings and confidence in a safe environment.
Movement on the horse, even simple walk or trot work, can encourage balance, strength, and core stability. Similarly, working on the ground offers sensory engagement and emotional regulation.

How It Works
Each rider is assessed to create a personalized plan that addresses their goals — whether physical, emotional, or social.
Lessons are led by certified instructors, supported by trained volunteers, using our safe, well-equipped facility.
Safety and comfort are our priority, with accessible mounting aids, adapted equipment, and small group or one-on-one options when needed.
