Training Arenas, Therapy Barns, Full-Service Care

About Freedom Woods

For more than twenty-two years, Freedom Woods has been family-owned and dedicated to providing exceptional care for every horse that calls our stables home. Our commitment to excellence and a welcoming community has made us a trusted destination for riders across Chicagoland. Conveniently located just minutes from downtown Chicago and the North Shore, our property sits alongside the scenic Cook County Forest Preserve. This unique setting gives us the best of both worlds — the quiet charm of the countryside with the accessibility of the suburbs. Our facility combines history and growth. The original stable, built in the 1930s, remains part of our foundation, while a second barn was added in the early 2000s to support our expanding therapeutic riding and beginner lesson programs.

Reducing Our Carbon Footprint

We believe caring for the environment is as important as caring for our horses. In recent years, Freedom Woods has introduced several sustainable practices to reduce our impact:

  • Upgraded all lighting to high-efficiency EcoSmart fixtures

  • Implemented a rainwater storage system to reuse water for arena footing

  • Transitioned most stalls from shavings to straw bedding, reducing disposal-related emissions

  • Partnered with local mushroom farmers who recycle our used straw to grow portobello mushrooms

Through these efforts, we’re proud to blend exceptional equestrian care with responsible environmental stewardship.
